Staring pitcher Bryan Woo made an early exit from the Seattle Mariners’ 4-0 victory in the opener of a pivotal series against the Houston Astros with pec tightness, manager Dan Wilson told reporters after Friday’s game.

Woo threw a few awkward pitches as he warmed up for the bottom of the sixth inning and was met on the mound by Wilson and team trainers before being abruptly pulled from the game. He was at just 67 pitches.
Woo alerted trainers of the pec issue during the prior inning and was unable to get loose during his warmup tosses for the sixth, per Seattle Sports Mariners insider Shannon Drayer.
Wilson said Woo would likely have an MRI on Saturday.
“You’re obviously concerned in some ways, but in other ways, Bryan, he’s a tough cookie,” Wilson said. “It was smart that he let us know, and there was no reason to push it. We’ll find out more tomorrow.”
Woo said the pec issue first cropped up in the fifth inning when he alerted trainers.
“I felt great all game, just felt it at the end, and, yeah, just felt it was smart to not try and push it,” Woo said.
Right-hander Eduard Bazardo came in to replace Woo and worked around an error for a scoreless inning to preserve Seattle’s 2-0 lead.
Woo has emerged as the ace of a talented Seattle staff that’s been impacted by injuries this season. A sixth-round pick 2021, Woo 15-7 record, 2.94 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 198 strikeouts over a career-high 186 1/3 innings in 30 starts.
Woo had pitched at least six innings in 27 of his 29 starts entering Friday.
