Mariners activate Julio Rodríguez from injured list

The Seattle Mariners activated center fielder Julio Rodríguez from the injured list Saturday ahead of their game against the San Francisco Giants at T-Mobile Park.

Utility man Miles Mastrobuoni was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Rodríguez is in the lineup for Saturday’s game batting second as the designated hitter. Luke Raley is getting the start in center field and batting eighth.

The 25-year-old Rodríguez had been out since suffering concussion July 2 when he was struck in the back of his helmet by throw while running the bases. He missed 10 games in total.

Before landing on the injured list, Rodríguez had been mired in a power slump with just four extra-base hits in 115 plate appearances since June 1. That came after he hit 10 homers in May, a career high for a single month.

In 87 games this season, the center fielder is batting .259 with a .747 OPS, 14 homers, 15 doubles and 12 stolen bases.

Mastrobuoni, 30, is being designated for assignment for the second time this season. He played in five games after having his contract selected from Triple-A Tacoma when Rodríguez went on the IL, going 0 for 3 at the plate. In 13 total games with the Mariners this season, he’s batting .192 (5 for 26) with a .433 OPS.
