Mariners’ 2026 schedule out, includes rare home doubleheader

The Seattle Mariners, along with the rest of MLB, released their schedule for the 2026 regular season on Tuesday.

Seattle will again begin the season at home – which is never a bad idea in late March thanks to the retractable roof of T-Mobile Park – with three games against the Cleveland Guardians beginning on Thursday, March 26. That will be followed with a three-game home series against the New York Yankees.

It will be the fourth straight season and fifth time in six years that the M’s open at home.

One thing in particular stands out as a rarity for the M’s: a scheduled doubleheader at home. That will occur on Saturday, June 20 against the Boston Red Sox in the first two games of a three-game set. The reason for the twinbill is the two teams will be off the day before with a World Cup soccer game featuring the US men’s national team scheduled to occur across the street at Lumen Field.

The Mariners last played a home doubleheader in 2022, the result of a condensed schedule following an MLB lockout.

As pointed out by Mariners insider Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports, the M’s will avoid playing any home games on days when World Cup games will be played at Lumen Field. That includes a mid-series day off on Wednesday, July 1, the middle point of a four-game series with the Los Angeles Angels. Seattle will host six World Cup games from June 15 through July 6.

Another member of the broadcast team for Seattle Sports’ Mariners coverage, Extra Innings host and frequent pregame/postgame voice Curtis Rogers, highlighted an easier end to the season than usual in terms of travel for the M’s. After returning home from a six-game road trip to Toronto and Boston in late August and early September, the Mariners will not have to travel any farther east than Denver over their final 22 games.

Seattle will end the season at home with two games against the Houston Astros followed by four games against another AL West rival, the Angels.
