Recap: Mariners beat Reds 11-7 in extras after Cal, Randy HRs in 9th

Cal Raleigh and Randy Arozarena hit back-to-back home runs in the ninth inning, and the Seattle Mariners rallied against shaky Cincinnati defense in the 10th inning to beat the Reds 11-7 Thursday and clinch their first road series win of the season.

The Mariners rebounded after former M’s outfielder Jake Fraley hit a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning to put the Reds ahead 7-5. It was his second career grand slam and first since June 5, 2021 for the Mariners against the Los Angeles Angels.

Raleigh hit his sixth home run in six games, which included two in a win on Wednesday, to lead off the ninth inning against another former Mariner, Emilio Pagán. It was the eighth homer of the season for Raleigh, which is just behind the Athletics’ Tyler Soderstrom for the MLB lead.

Two pitches later, Arozarena sent his fourth homer of the year over the fence in left to tie the game.

J.P. Crawford put the Mariners up by a run in the 10th inning with an RBI single that Reds shortstop Elly de la Cruz could not make a throw on. Arozarena drove in two more with a double, and Donovan Solano pushed another run across when he reached on an error by de la Cruz to make it an 11-7 game.

The Reds committed four errors on the day.
Emerson Hancock returned from Triple-A Tacoma and pitched five innings in the start for Seattle, holding the Reds to two runs on five hits and no walks with four strikeouts. Austin Hays’ two-run homer accounted for all of the production against Hancock.
Mariners Observations: Three things standing out after series win over Reds
Gonzaga product Casey Legumina pitched a perfect ninth with a strikeout against his former team to send the game to extras, and M’s closer Andrés Muñoz did the same in the bottom of the 10th to clinch the win.
Luke Raley had a two-run homer for the M’s.

The Mariners (10-9) will begin a three-game series at Toronto at 4:07 p.m. Friday. Radio coverage will begin on Seattle Sports at 3 p.m. with the pregame show.
