Sometimes there is nothing better than a classic.
The Seattle Mariners released another commercial Tuesday with opening day just two more sleeps away. This one paid homage to one the team’s most memorable commercials of the past with a present-day twist.
Drayer: The state of the Mariners as camp breaks for opening day
In an ode to the popular “Larry Bernandez” commercial from 2011 that featured former ace Félix Hernández disguising himself as an alter ego, the Mariners broke out the wig and fake sideburns again, only this time for star catcher Cal Raleigh to transform into “Hal Baleigh.”
The commercial, which is titled “Larry Returns,” starts with a clip of Raleigh taking first base as play-by-play voice Aaron Goldsmith says, “Another intentional walk to Cal Raleigh. Nobody wants to pitch to this guy. I mean, you almost kind of feel bad for him.”
It then cuts to Raleigh at his locker opening a package with a note from Hernández, aka Larry Bernandez, that reads, “These might help you get a pitch to hit.” Raleigh, now disguised as Hal Baleigh, then steps up to the plate and clubs a home run. You can watch the full commercial in the video above.
Tuesday’s commercial was the fourth released by the Mariners in the lead up to opening day. The club also released “Babyproofed” on Saturday, “Torpedo 2.0” on Sunday and “Comin’ in Hot” on Monday.
The defending American League West champion Mariners open the 2026 season at 7:10 p.m. Thursday against the Cleveland Guardians at T-Mobile Park. Radio coverage can be heard on Seattle Sports 710 AM and the Seattle Sports app starting with pregame coverage at 6 p.m.
