Talking Mariners Podcast: Could M’s make late adds before spring training?

A new edition of the Mariners Talk with Shannon and Howdy podcast is here, with Shannon Drayer and James "Boy Howdy" Osborn discussing free agency and much more.

It is hard to believe but the Mariners’ offseason is indeed speeding to a close. Baseball talk without baseball should soon be a thing of the past, but before then, a podcast.

Scott Servais: Mariners have laid a foundation to start building upon

James “Boy Howdy” Osborn and I took time out of counting the raindrops this week to take a look at a number of topics that have popped up since we last had a chat. We kicked off the 45-minute podcast with a quick review of the brief back and forth between MLB and the MLB Players Association this weekend, discussing what to make of the interaction and how this impacts the season, which is now slated to start on time.

A lighter topic followed – the Mariners Virtual Baseball Blast – as I point to some highlights you may have missed. Meatloaf with Mitch, anyone? Yeah, that happened, as did a fun conversation with Julio Rodríguez, who is taking advice from a colorful former Mariner.

Of course no Mariners discussion is complete without a look at the potential timeline for Jarred Kelenic. There is little doubt he is close to his MLB debut, and the potential impact of Kelenic, Rodríguez and Kyle Lewis playing together hits a bit harder this week thanks to an assist from MLB.

Last but not least, there’s a look at the trade and free agent markets. Why didn’t the Mariners get in on the Nolan Arenado deal? The answer is pretty simple if you ask me, which I share in the podcast. The question of who Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto could add to the club in the next two weeks is also explored, and James explains why he is not particularly disappointed that we haven’t seen a big addition this winter.
