Mariners’ Robinson Cano leaves game after being hit in head

ANAHEIM – A scary moment in the Mariners’ 4-2 loss to the Angels Saturday as Robinson Cano was hit in the head by an errant throw in between innings. The initial report from the Mariners clubhouse was that he left the game with dizziness and was undergoing MLB concussion protocol in the clubhouse.

The incident happened right before the start of the seventh inning. Cano was sitting at the rail in on the far end of the Mariners dugout when the throw sailed over Angels first baseman Albert Pujols and hit Cano in the forehead. Trainers and manager Lloyd McClendon immediately rushed to Cano, who remained upright but looked unsteady. After a short delay he was led to the end of the bench where he sat for a minute and then down the tunnel to the Mariners clubhouse.

Willie Bloomquist replaced Cano at second base.

We will have an update on Cano’s condition later Saturday night.
