Mariners notebook: Offense continues to put up big numbers

Even while missing Ketel Marte and Leonys Martin the past three weeks, the Mariners still are near or on top of the leaderboard in several offensive categories.

Leonys Martin checked out of his sim game fine and is on schedule to join the Rainiers for a game Thursday night. Martin, who hit and ran the bases in the sim game, will have the opportunity to get his legs under him in center field in Tacoma and then should be set to go for the Mariners on Friday.

Good news on the Martin front, and good news on the Ketel Marte front as well as the neck spasms that caused him to be scratched from the lineup Tuesday night did not linger and he is in the lineup Wednesday. The Mariners are getting ever closer to being back at full strength offensively.

Even while missing Marte and Martin the past three weeks, the Mariners still are near or on top of the leaderboard in several categories. On the season they are averaging 5.09 runs per game, which ranks second in the American League. Their 84 home runs are third best, and they are one Kyle Seager RBI away from being the only team in the majors with three players with 40 or more RBI. Robinson Cano (48) and Nelson Cruz (43) are of course the other two with 40 plus RBI. The three are also in the top seven in two-out RBI with Cruz coming in at No. 2 with 21, and Cano and Seager tied for fifth with 18.

Good things from the middle of the order.
