Mariners Hot Stove podcast: Why has the baseball offseason been so slow?

News or no news, with the holidays behind us and less than six weeks until pitchers and catchers report to spring training, Boy Howdy insisted we do a podcast. So with no new Mariners moves to talk about, we took a closer look at why that has been. It’s not just the M’s that have been quiet this offseason, as there has been little movement in the free agent market at all this winter, so we discuss what that could mean moving forward.

Edgar picks up HOF momentum, Congressional Resolution

Meanwhile, Edgar Martinez continues to put up strong numbers as now over one-third of the Baseball Hall of Fame ballots have been revealed. How do those numbers compare to this time last year, and will his name be on enough of the remaining ballots to keep him at or above the required 75 percent needed for entry into Cooperstown?

The podcast also includes a look at upcoming events on the Mariners schedule, a preview of Jerry Dipoto’s latest “The Wheelhouse” podcast on Mariners.com, an interesting comparison of two surprisingly similar payrolls in baseball, and Shannon and Howdy’s favorite autograph stories.
