Hot Stove podcast No. 5: Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto drops by for a chat

Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto joined the Hot Stove podcast to share his hopes for the 2017 Mariners and his philosophies behind building a roster.

Watch: Mariners Trade Luis Castillo to the White Sox - REACTION | 3 mins

In the latest edition of the Hot Stove podcast, Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto joins us for a 20-minute conversation where he shares his roster-building philosophies and addresses a number of topics that I believe give a good picture of just where he is in the process of putting together next season’s Mariners. Additionally, he sheds some light on what we could possibly see in the coming weeks and even gives us a peek at the expectation for his not-yet-completed 2017 team.

Dipoto also gives an Arizona Fall League progress report on Tyler O’Neill and recent 40-man roster addition Thyago Vieira, fills us in on what a day in the life of a GM looks like in the offseason and talks at length on the balance of trying to win now while still incorporating young (but ready) players at the big league level.

You can listen to the Hot Stove podcast at this link, on the 710 app, on iTunes, or in the player above.

In addition to the Dipoto interview, James Osborn and I take a look at the Mariners news and notes of the week, we share a great “Bullpen Banter” interview with Kyle Seager from last season, and revisit my favorite walk-off interview from 2016. Enjoy!
