Hello, my name is: Rickie Weeks, Mariners outfielder

We’re introducing some of the Mariners’ offseason additions and lesser-known players during spring training. Here’s a personal look at Rickie Weeks.

• Position: Outfield

• Height/weight/age: 5-10/220/32

• Hometown: Orlando, Fla.

• How acquired: Signed as a free agent to a one-year contract to primarily play the outfield, though his natural position is second base.

What he’d be if he wasn’t a baseball player: Weeks still would have worked in the sports industry, but more on the management side of things. “Probably doing something in professional sports in the front office, putting teams together,” he said. In fact, that’s his plan once his playing days are over. “I really want to go study sports management and go into the whole front office business part,” he said.

Favorite dish made by his mom: Smothered chicken or smothered pork chops. “When you smother something, it’s usually the meat of choice and then obviously the smother is like the gravy or the stuff you put over it,” he said.

Best concert he’s attended: Bruno Mars.

Experience he’s looking forward to while living in Seattle: “Pike’s Market … and also the Space Needle are the two biggest things I want to look at,” he said. And being a big football fan himself – he roots for Florida State University – he’s added he’s interested in seeing CenturyLink Field up close.
