Ex-Mariners OF called up by Astros before series in Seattle

The Seattle Mariners will see an old friend during their four-game series with the Houston Astros at T-Mobile Park.

Former M’s outfielder Taylor Trammell was among two players the Astros selected the minor league contracts of before Friday’s series opener. They also brought up right-hander J.P. France.

Outfielder Jake Meyers (oblique strain) was placed on the 10-day injured list and right-hander Cristian Javier (right shoulder strain) was placed on the 15-day IL.

Right-hander Ronel Blanco was transferred to the 60-day IL to clear room on Houston’s 40-man roster.

Trammell, 28, played in parts of four seasons for the Mariners from 2021-24. In 116 games with the team, he hit .168 with a .639 OPS, 15 homers and 16 doubles.

Trammell played 52 games for Houston last season, batting .196 with a .630 OPS, three homers and seven doubles.

The Mariners and Astros begin their four-game series at 6:40 p.m. on Friday. Radio coverage begins with the postgame show at 5:30 p.m. on Seattle Sports 710 AM and the Seattle Sports app.
