Charlie Furbush to DL as Mariners shake up bullpen again

The Mariners have reworked the bullpen again, with Charlie Furbush placed on the DL, Mayckol Guaipe optioned to Tacoma, and Danny Farquhar and Vidal Nuno recalled.

The Mariners have announced the following roster moves:

• Vidal Nuño, left-handed pitcher, recalled from Triple-A Tacoma

• Danny Farquhar, right-handed pitcher, recalled from Triple-A Tacoma

• Charlie Furbush, left-handed pitcher, placed on 15-day disabled list with left biceps tendinitis

• Mayckol Guaipe, right-handed pitcher, optioned to AAA Tacoma

The move with Furbush is retroactive to Wednesday. It appeared that the Mariners had been trying to stay away from him a bit lately and now we have the move that enables them to bring up Nuno, who was optioned to Tacoma on July 3 and otherwise would not be eligible for return until ten days after he had been sent down.

Farquhar, 28, struggled early in his latest stint in Tacoma but has put up a 2.61 ERA in his last seven appearances.

Guaipe, 24, gave up four runs in two innings pitched over two appearances in the Detroit series earlier this week.

The move puts some needed experienced arms in the pen but takes away the Mariners’ best left-handed option. Furbush has been a reliable bullpen arm for Seattle since 2012, and this season he has a 2.08 ERA, 0.65 WHIP and 13 holds over 33 appearances (21 2/3 innings), stranding all 16 runners he has inherited. It is just the second DL trip of his career.
