ALDS Game 3 Lineups: Josh Naylor playing for Mariners

Josh Naylor is in the lineup for the Seattle Mariners in Tuesday’s scheduled Game 3 of the American League Division Series in Detroit.

Naylor is playing first base and hitting fifth for Seattle against Tigers right-handed starting pitcher Jack Flaherty.

The status of Naylor was in question after he did not travel with the team to Detroit following the Game 2 win Sunday in Seattle. According to The Seattle Times, Naylor and his wife, Chantel Collado, were expecting their first child, which had a due date for last weekend.

“We’re excited that he’s here with us, and we’re excited to have him back in the lineup,” Mariners manager Dan Wilson said Tuesday, hours before the scheduled first pitch.

“It’s a huge deal. … I think he’s handled everything really well and he’s done a tremendous job for us since coming over here.”

With Naylor in the mix, Seattle’s lineup is nearly the same as it was in Game 1 when the Tigers started another right-hander on the mound. The only change is Naylor swapping places with second baseman Jorge Polanco, who will hit cleanup after his two-homer performance Sunday.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch is going with a different look to his lineup in Game 3 with the best-of-five series tied at one win apiece.

Right fielder Kerry Carpenter, whose two-run home run in Game 1 is the biggest hit of the series thus far for Detroit, has swapped places with second baseman Gleyber Torres in the batting order. Carpenter will lead off against Mariners starter Logan Gilbert and Torres will hit second.

The Tigers have second-year designated hitter Colt Keith, who hits from the left side, moving up to No. 3 in the order, pushing left fielder Riley Greene and first baseman Spencer Torkelson each down a spot to cleanup and fifth, respectively.

Game 3 of the ALDS is set for a 1:08 p.m. first pitch, with extended radio pregame coverage on Seattle Sports beginning at 11 a.m.

There is some concern that rain in Detroit could impact Tuesday’s game.

The other ALDS between the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees is also set for Game 3 Tuesday. With a win at Yankee Stadium in the 5:05 p.m. game, the Blue Jays would sweep.

The time of Wednesday’s scheduled Game 4 between the Mariners and Tigers will be impacted by the outcome of Tuesday’s Blue Jays-Yankees game. Game 4 in Detroit will be played at 12:08 p.m. Wednesday if the Yankees win Tuesday, or 4:08 p.m. Wednesday if the Blue Jays win Tuesday.
