Gee Scott: Controversy over Seahawks not signing Kaepernick is overblown

Shannon Sharpe of Fox Sports 1 called Pete Carroll "disingenuous" for the Seahawks not signing Colin Kaepernick as a backup quarterback. Gee Scott explains why that's off-base.

The Seahawks signed a quarterback to compete for the job as Russell Wilson’s backup this week, and the fact that it was Austin Davis and not Colin Kaepernick has landed Pete Carroll and company back in the focus of the national media.

One person to voice his opinion on the Seahawks not signing Kaepernick was former NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe, who said on FOX Sports 1’s “Undisputed” that Carroll was “being disingenuous” by saying that he believes Kaepernick is a starter in the NFL and then not bringing him on board. Sharpe’s point is that if Wilson were to get hurt, the Seahawks would be better off having someone of starter quality filling in for him than somebody who is best suited as a backup, which if that were the case would make Kaepernick the better option according to Carroll’s own words.

Gee Scott of 710 ESPN Seattle thinks Sharpe has it wrong, however, as he detailed to John Clayton on Tuesday. In the video above, you can hear Scott and Clayton discuss how the controversy over the Seahawks not signing Kaepernick is overblown.
