Huard’s Chalk Talk: 24-yard hookup shows trust between Seahawks’ Russell Wilson, Jimmy Graham

Brock Huard breaks down one of Jimmy Graham's catches from the Seahawks' win over the Jets, a 24-yard completion that shows the trust Russell Wilson has in his tight end.

Tight end Jimmy Graham caught six passes for 113 yards in Seattle’s win over the Jets Sunday, becoming the first Seahawk since Mike Williams in 2010 with 100 yards receiving in back-t0-back games.

With 12 catches for 213 yards and a touchdown over the last two weeks, Graham is producing at a level the Seahawks envisioned when they acquired him in a blockbuster trade in 2015. Just as encouraging for Seattle’s offense as all the catches Graham has made is what’s been evident in some of them: Russell Wilson’s trust.

One example of that was a 24-yard completion in the fourth quarter against the Jets, which is the subject of this week’s “Chalk Talk” video with Brock Huard. He shows how Wilson bypassed an open receiver on that play to throw to a tightly-covered Graham, something he may not have done in the past.

“That’s two weeks back to back with just tremendous plays, one right after another,” coach Pete Carroll said of Graham on Sunday. “You can see Russell believing in him, you can see him putting the ball up to him in places where’s going to have the best shot to get it with some exquisite throws. But the catches and the completion, finishing the play by Jimmy was just marvelous. It was really great to see that.”
