With C.J. Prosise out again due to his hand injury, fellow running back C.J. Spiller is active today for what will be his first game with the Seahawks.
How much and in what role Spiller plays against the Jets at MetLife Stadium is a question, though. The Seahawks signed him earlier this week in the wake of injuries to Proise and starter Thomas Rawls. That means he’s only had a few days to get up to speed on the playbook, including all the pass-protection assignments he’d have to know in order to step in for Prosise as the third-down back.
Spiller signed with the Seahawks on Wednesday and practiced for the first time with his new team Thursday. When asked Thursday about the role(s) he may fill, Spiller said he didn’t know and that he was still “swimming” trying to get caught up.
If it’s not Spiller, rookie Alex Collins could fill that role for the second straight week while Spiller backs up Christine Michael, who’s starting in Rawls’ absence. Spiller has also returned kickoffs and punts during his career.

Quarterback Russell Wilson is active, as expected. The Seahawks did not make any moves to add another quarterback to their active roster before yesterday’s deadline – promoting Jake Heaps from the practice squad would have been an option – so he and rookie Trevone Boykin are the only two available today.
The other big name on Seattle’s inactive list is rookie defensive tackle Jarran Reed, who is out with a hip injury. Reed was listed as questionable heading into the game after not practicing Friday. Tony McDaniel, who started for Seattle in 2013 and 2014, will presumably slide into Reed’s role as the starter alongside Ahtyba Rubin.
Rookie tight end Nick Vannett is also inactive, which means his NFL debut will have to wait another week. Vannett hasn’t played since suffering a high-ankle sprain in Seattle’s second preseason game. He practice last week and was listed as questionable.
Another Seahawks rookie will make his NFL debut today as right guard Germain Ifedi is back from his high-ankle sprain. Coach Pete Carroll said last week that he’ll resume his starting role, which will relegate J’Marcus Webb to a backup.
Tight end Jimmy Graham and linebacker Mike Morgan were both on Seattle’s injury report last week and were listed as questionable, but they’re active.
Seattle’s other inactive players are offensive linemen Rees Odhiambo and George Fant as well as safety Tyvis Powell, all of whom are rookies.
For the Jets, former University of Washington tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins is inactive. He was claimed by New York earlier this week after being waived by Tampa Bay following his arrest on suspicion of DUI.
