Stelton: Marco Gonzales solidifying Mariners’ rotation in rough stretch

The All-Star break appears to be coming at a good time for the Mariners, who had lost four of six before Wednesday’s 3-0 win over the Angels. The most notable part of that struggle has been the starting rotation – with one obvious exception.

Mariners could be in for a busy MLB trade deadline

Left-hander Marco Gonzales threw seven innings of scoreless, two-hit baseball in Wednesday’s victory, just six days after he held the same Los Angeles team to one run over six innings in a 4-1 win.

This year has been a breakout season for the 26-year-old Gonzaga alum – he will enter next week’s four-day All-Star break with a 10-5 record, 3.41 ERA and 1.16 WHIP, and he already has nearly tripled his career-high for MLB innings pitched at 113 1/3.

As 710 ESPN Seattle’s Bob Stelton says in the included video, not only is Gonzales solidifying the Mariners’ rotation, but last year’s trade with St. Louis to bring Gonzales to Seattle is rapidly rising up the list of Jerry Dipoto’s best deals.
