With Spring Training 2 set to begin next week, the Mariners have taken care of a few orders of business, signing three of their six picks from the coronavirus-shortened 2020 MLB Draft.

Drayer: A Mariners guide to the 60-game MLB season

Right-handed pitcher Emerson Hancock, who the Mariners took with the sixth overall selection, has signed for $5.7 million, according to MLB Pipeline’s Jim Callis. That amount is just slightly under the $5.749 million slot value for the No. 6 pick.

Second-rounder Zach DeLoach, an outfielder, signed at full slot value for the No. 43 pick at $1,729,800, according to Callis.

The Mariners’ sixth and final selection in the draft, right-handed pitcher Taylor Dollard, has also signed at full slot value ($406,000), according to Jonathan Mayo of MLB Pipeline.

The Mariners third, fourth and fifth picks – pitcher Connor Phillips and infielders Kaden Polcovich and Tyler Keenan – have yet to sign but are expected to do so once able to complete team physicals.

Without a minor league season in 2020, MLB teams will be challenged to get their newest members work. Team chairman John Stanton told 710 ESPN Seattle’s John Clayton Wednesday morning that the M’s are allowing for the possibility that Hancock could be a member of the Mariners’ taxi squad (explained in this post) and it is not out of the question that we see one or two of the other draft picks with that group as well.

The Mariners have until noon Sunday to finalize their 60-man roster that will make up the big league team and taxi squad.
