Former UW Huskies coach and player Jim Lambright has died at the age of 77, the university announced Sunday. Former Husky quarterback Brock Huard played his entire college football career for Lambright, from joining the UW program as a redshirt freshman in 1995 to the final season with the team for both of them in 1998. We talked to the 710 ESPN Seattle host and FOX college football analyst Sunday about his memories of Lambright.

Here’s what Huard had to say:

What stood out about Lambright as a coach and person?

Tough. He bled purple and gold and nothing meant more to “Lambo” than being a tough Husky.

What was your relationship like with him as your coach?

It was about respect. Lambo rewarded loyalty and hard work, and he built his teams to play defense and run the ball – a QB’s best friends.

What memories of him come to mind when you look back?

His flushed cheeks and bulging eyes. His intensity and fierceness rarely subsided and he took so much pride, rightfully so, in his decades-long run as a player and a coach at the UW.

What is his legacy with Husky football?

I doubt there will ever be another Husky who will have played and coached in as many games as Lambo! That record feels untouchable.
