Kam Chancellor was back at work with the Seahawks on Wednesday, putting to end a standoff over his contract and putting to ease fans eager to have the strong safety back on the field, especially for the team’s first home game on Sunday.

“There’s gonna be an adjustment period though. One of the fist reports of Kam Chancellor’s return was Stephen A. Smith of ESPN who received a message from Kam saying he was returning to finish the journey he and Marshawn Lynch started. And he made reference to teammates that haven’t necessarily supported him,” 710 ESPN Seattle’s Danny O’Neil told Seattle’s Morning News on KIRO Radio.

“I think there is going to be some time here to see how much scar tissue and how much damage was done between Kam and the franchise, and between Kam and his teammates,” he said.

Gee Scott of 710 ESPN Seattle, who first reported the news, echoed O’Neil, but said that some teammates will be happy to have Chancellor back, regardless of his time away. One such player is Marshawn Lynch, who has been supportive of Chancellor throughout the holdout.

It is not certain that Chancellor received a new contract deal as he wanted. In fact, it is likely that Chancellor will lose money.

“I don’t think he got a new contract. We will have to wait and see,” O’Neil said. “Everything that I had been told up until this morning is that the Seahawks had not been negotiating with him and he needed to report.”

“On the fines, there is certainly some room for hedging, but he’s going to have to pay some of that,” he said. “Some of it, the team doesn’t have a choice over. I know there is a half a million dollars that, as I understand, he’s obligated to repay in signing bonus proration.”

Chancellor’s presence at practice means he’ll be available to play at the Seahawks’ first home game against the Chicago Bears on Sept. 27.

“He hasn’t missed a home game yet,” O’Neil said. “It does give him an opportunity to be seen as someone who came back and didn’t let stubbornness and pride get in the way. He’s probably got some pretty hard feelings as it relates to the business. But that’s not going to trump the ability to play with his teammates.”
