The Seahawks will be without star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney in today’s road contest against the Philadelphia Eagles due to a hip injury.

Clayton: A Seahawks-centric guide to watching NFC playoff race in Week 12

Clowney is one of seven inactives for Seattle and far and away the biggest name.

Clowney has appeared in all 10 Seahawks games, this season and while the sack numbers may not be where he and Seattle would like them to be, he has been arguably the team’s best defensive player this year, causing a number of quarterback pressures and hits as well as helping cause turnovers.

Clowney is coming off his best performance of the season in Week 10 against the San Francisco 49ers. He had a sack, forced a fumble, returned a fumble for a touchdown and was constantly disrupting the 49ers’ offense in both the running and passing games. Clowney was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance.

Clowney didn’t practice at all this week and was listed as questionable on the Seahawks’ final injury report on Friday. At Pete Carroll’s press conference Friday before departing for Philadelphia, the Seahawks head coach said Clowney wasn’t at the team’s practice facility because he was getting  “off-campus treatment” for the injury. Carroll said Clowney got the injury during the Week 10 contest in San Francisco.

NFL.com’s Ian Rappaport reported Sunday morning that Clowney’s “off-campus treatment” was actually in Philadelphia.

Now, others like Ziggy Ansah, Rasheem Green and rookie L.J. Collier will have to step up in Clowney’s absence to generate pressure on Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz.

The rest of the Seahawks’ inactive list isn’t too surprising.

Cornerback Neiko Thorpe was listed as questionable on Friday due to a groin injury and tight end Luke Willson was listed as doubtful with a hamstring injury.

Willson’s injury will test the depth at tight end as just Jacob Hollister and recently-promoted Tyrone Swoopes are the only healthy players at the position on the Seahawks’ roster (if you’re not counting offensive tackle George Fant, who reports as an eligible receiver at times in most games). Will Dissly was the team’s starting tight end to begin the year but he tore his Achilles tendon in Week 6 and will miss the remainder of the season. Ed Dickson was set to play in his first game of the year but ended up back on injured reserve this week and is done for the year as well.

Receivers Jaron Brown and John Ursua were both healthy scratches last week, as was running back C.J. Prosise. No. 1 receiver Tyler Lockett is good to go after an injury caused him to leave Week 10’s contest and stay in a Bay Area hospital for two nights.

Rounding out the list is rookie guard Phil Haynes. Haynes was activated from the physically unable to perform list before Week 10, but was inactive in part because of an injury. Today, he is a healthy scratch.

On the Eagles’ side, they are banged up – primarily on offense.

Lane Johnson is the Eagles’ starting right tackle and suffered a concussion last week against the Patriots. Rookie Andre Dillard, a Washington State product, will start in his absence.

Wentz and the Eagles’ offense will be without three of their biggest weapons in receivers Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor and running back Jordan Howard.

The Eagles’ offense was already depleted as receiver Desean Jackson and running back Darren Sproles are both out for the rest of the season due to injuries.

The Seahawks will look to get to 9-2 today, and a win would be historic. Russell Wilson would be the first quarterback in NFL history to lead his team to winning seasons in each of his first eight years as a pro.
