The Mariners added right-handed pitcher Matt Magill in a deal with the Minnesota Twins for cash on Sunday morning.

Magill, 29, was designated for assignment by the Twins on Thursday. In 28 appearances with Minnesota this season, Magill is 2-0 with a 4.45 ERA, 36 strikeouts and 15 walks over 28 1/3 innings.

Magill made his MLB debut in 2013, pitching six games for the Dodgers, but didn’t reappear in the majors until 2018 with Minnesota. He was a 2008 31st-round MLB Draft pick out of high school in 2008.

Magill has 73 career appearances in the majors, including 40 in 2018.

In Magill’s first 14 outings this season, he allowed just two earned runs over 13 1/3 innings for a 1.35 ERA to go with 18 strikeouts and five walks. He began the year on the injured list with right shoulder tendinitis.

The Mariners optioned fellow reliever Matt Festa to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday to make room for Magill on the active roster. With Magill’s addition, the M’s have three right-handed relievers named Matt in their bullpen, all of whom were acquired since June: Magill, Matt Carasiti and Matt Wisler.
