When Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman was named as the cover boy for the new NFL Madden game, he laid down a challenge.
“I’ve been trying to get the Legion of Boom on the cover, and E.A.’s been fighting me. So if anybody wants to start a petition to get the Legion of Boom on the cover here it is, here’s an open invitation,” he said.
One member of the 12th Man answered the call.
You might expect that die-hard fan to be from Seattle or Bellevue or at least Washington, but the man behind the petition to get the entire Legion of Boom on the Madden cover is from Cleveland.
“When (Richard Sherman) talked about E.A. Sports being reluctant to do it and he wanted to challenge somebody to do it, I felt like I needed to,” said Jason Coiner.
Coiner created a twitter account, a Facebook page and now a
Change.org petition to encourage E.A. Sports to get the LOB on the cover with Sherman.
“I’ve been pounding the ground with this,” Coiner said. He said he’s spending 15 hours a day working on this, sending emails to media organizations, and reaching out to Seahawks fan clubs around the nation. He’s doing all this while taking finals at nursing school.
“Any type of outlet that I can go to, where I can get the word across, is exactly what I’m doing,” he said.
So what’s driving this guy? Why is he so passionate?
“Football is a team sport,” Coiner said. “If you’re a Seahawks fan, you know this year the reason that we were so successful is because it is a team sport. Those players, and that secondary, they feed off of each other. If you’re going to celebrate one of them, you need to celebrate all of them.”
Coiner said he’s going to keep pushing E.A. Sports until he gets the LOB on the cover.
