Seahawks Insider: Paul Richardson injured on one-handed grab

CARSON, Calif. – The Seahawks won Sunday’s preseason game by 31 points, which was pretty impressive considering they didn’t score more than 27 points in any of their four preseason games last season.

Seattle did suffer a loss, however. Receiver Paul Richardson suffered an injury to his shoulder as he made a diving, one-handed catch for 25 yards in the first quarter.

“Really, it was kind of self-inflicted,” coach Pete Carroll said. “He took for that ball. It was a great deep ball, and he kind of left his feet to go get it and he landed on his shoulder. He got crunched pretty good.”

Carroll declined to specify a timeline for recovery, but he did say that the injury was to the AC joint and Richardson would need time to recover.

That’s too bad because Richardson caught two passes in Seattle’s first four plays from scrimmage, including that one-handed grab that showed he was picking up right where he left off at the end of last season when he took huge strides by catching seven passes in two playoff games, including an absolutely incredible one-handed touchdown catch against Detroit in the wild-card round.

Richardson was a second-round pick in 2014, and he caught 29 passes as a rookie before suffering a torn knee ligament in December, which ended his season. He returned in 2015 only to pull his hamstring muscle on the one pass he did catch, which was for a 40-yard gain.
