Gee Scott: Shaquill Griffin will be household name for Seahawks

The Seahawks’ first pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, defensive lineman Malik McDowell, has been described as having upside similar to Pro Bowler Calais Campbell. Their second pick, Ethan Pocic, could be a versatile cog on the team’s always-changing offensive line. But 710 ESPN Seattle’s Gee Scott believes it will be cornerback Shaquill Griffin, one of the team’s third-round picks, that will be the star of Seattle’s 2017 draft.
“He is going to be my pick for the one in this draft that’s going to be a household name for the next four or five years with this team,” Scott said to John Clayton following the draft.

Scott said he believes the Seahawks’ need at cornerback outweighed all else and would have preferred Seattle to have kept its pick in the first round to select Washington Huskies CB Kevin King, who the Packers plucked as the first pick in the second round. Instead the Seahawks traded back twice, bolstering their collection of picks from seven to 11.
While Scott is high on McDowell’s lofty potential, he also sees greatness in Griffin. Watch above for Scott’s rationale.
