The Thunderbirds announced Monday morning that they have signed Cody Savey to a WHL Standard Player Agreement.
Savey, an undrafted forward born in 2001, is a 6-foot-1, 209-pound native of Campbell River, B.C. This season he has 26 points on 12 goals and 14 assists in 26 games with 62 penalty minutes.

Seattle has been without forwards Scott Eansor and Matthew Wedman for some time now and recently added Nolan Volcan and Wyatt Bear back to their injury list. In Seattle’s two wins last weekend, they skated under the limit in both games. While they’ve been successful even with a large amount of players missing, it’s not sustainable to play just 16 or 17 forwards for a long period of time.
For much of their victory against Portland on Saturday night, Seattle was essentially playing two lines and using the rest of their depth chart to spell the top six.
Savey impressed as a 15-year-old at training camp, demonstrating a “unique blend of skill and grit” that should make him “a fan favorite as he continues to develop as a Thunderbird,” T-Birds general manager Russ Farwell said through a press release from the team.
Already with impressive size for his age, Savey should continue to grow and, based on his numbers, appears to have a playing style that will endear him to Seattle fans for some time.
He expects to make his WHL debut when Seattle faces Kelowna Monday afternoon at Prospera Place.
