RENTON – The Seahawks are relatively healthy heading into their wild-card game against Detroit, but they’ll be without starting defensive tackle Tony McDaniel. Coach Pete Carroll said Thursday that he’s been ruled out because of a concussion he suffered last week in Seattle’s regular-season finale.

McDaniel, along with rookie running back C.J. Prosise (scapula), were officially ruled out on Seattle’s injury report Friday. No other players were listed on the report.

That means rookie second-round Jarran Reed will start again Saturday. He and McDaniel have split fairly evenly the playing time at defensive tackle alongside Ahtyba Rubin in the team’s base personnel package. Reed made six starts – the first three games of the regular season and the last three – while playing 44.2 percent of the defensive snaps, according to Football Outsiders’ snap-count data. McDaniel made the other 10 starts and played 45 percent of the defensive plays.

Russell Wilson feeling fast, may ditch knee brace soon

With McDaniel out and Seattle relatively thin at defensive tackle, John Jenkins will likely be active Saturday for the first time since Week 12.

Seattle is in good shape otherwise. Of the other four players on the team’s injury report this week, only Prosise actually has an injury; he’s at least another week away from returning from his broken scapula. Cornerback Richard Sherman didn’t practice Thursday, but his absence is listed as not injury-related and he typically gets a day off late in the week.

Same with defensive lineman Michael Bennett and tight end Jimmy Graham. They’re listed as full participants Thursday after getting the day off on Wednesday.

The Seahawks will provide final designations for Saturday’s game on Friday even though they held their final practice Thursday afternoon. But that shouldn’t reveal anything that isn’t already known.
