Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said running back C.J. Prosise is expected to miss time after injuring his shoulder in Seattle’s win over Philadelphia. Based on his wording, it could be a significant amount of time if not the remainder of the season.

“There’s a chance he comes back this year, yeah,” Carroll said. “We’ll have to figure that out. It’s going to be a while, though. We won’t know until we get all the results in tonight and tomorrow.”

The Seahawks also lost free safety Earl Thomas, cornerback DeShawn Shead, running back Troymaine Pope and others to injuries on Sunday, a brutal game for both teams in that regard.

Thomas left for good in the third quarter after hurting his hamstring. He was also in coverage on cornerback Richard Sherman’s interception, grabbing the back of his leg after pulling up lame at the end of the play. Carroll said he didn’t know about the prognosis for Thomas.

“He has a little hammy strain that he can feel, so we got him out of there,” Carroll said. “We had a number of guys that got banged up today. It’s a lousy list.”

Shead left the game earlier with a hamstring injury of his own. Carroll said Shead felt something on Saturday then had difficulty getting loose before and during the game. Neiko Thorpe replaced him at cornerback while Steven Terrrell played free safety after Thomas went down. Thorpe then left with game with cramps and was replaced by rookie DeAndre Elliott.

Prosise was making his second straight start as Seattle eased Thomas Rawls back into action in his first game back from a two-month absence. He left the game for good after taking a hard hit in the closing seconds of the second quarter. Carroll said the injury is to Prosise’s scapula, which is the shoulder blade. He had gained 76 yards on four carries before that, most of them coming on a 72-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

The situation at running back got even worse when Pope went down in the fourth quarter with what Carroll called “a bit of a high-ankle sprain.” Alex Collins was inactive, so Pope’s injury left Rawls as Seattle’s only healthy tailback. With Rawls presumably on a snap count in his first game in two months, Seattle gave one fourth-quarter handoff to backup quarterback Trevone Boykin of all people. It lost 5 yards.

Collins will take on a bigger role now that Prosise and Pope are both hurt. Seattle will also have to add a running back or two this week.

Left tackle George Fant hurt his shoulder in the first half. He was replaced by rookie Rees Odhiambo before returning. Defensive end Damontre Moore, wide receiver Tanner McEvoy and tight end Luke Willson were the other Seahawks who suffered injuries Sunday.
