On Sunday, Rizzs sent the crowd at Lumen Field into a frenzy when he raised the 12 Flag just moments before kickoff of the Seattle Seahawks’ matchup against the NFC West rival San Francisco 49ers.

Rizzs, 72, spent 41 years as a Mariners play-by-play broadcaster, a career that spanned across parts of five decades. There have been just nine seasons in franchise history Rizzs was not in the radio or TV booth.
Rizzs announced earlier this year he was retiring at the end of the 2026 season. He will be inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame next year where he will join longtime friend and mentor Dave Niehaus as the only non-players in the Mariners Hall of Fame.
Rizzs will also be honored later this month when a road in Issaquah – the city Rizzs calls home – renames a road “Rick Rizzs Road” on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
