Mariners’ lineup vs Rockies features a first

For the first time since both have been in the majors, Seattle Mariners rookies Michael Arroyo and Lazaro Montes are in the starting lineup together.

Arroyo is set to bat seventh as the second baseman and Montes eighth as the designated hitter as the Mariners take on the Colorado Rockies on Saturday at Coors Field.

The top prospects have each gotten off to strong starts during the first month in the majors. Arroyo is 5 for 15 at the plate and sporting a .333/.450/.667 slash line with one homer and two doubles in his first seven games. Montes is 8 for 32 in the batter’s box and slashing .250/.314/.656 with four homers and one double in 14 games, which includes hitting a go-ahead solo home run during the ninth inning of Friday’s series-opening 5-4 win against Colorado.

The Mariners entered Saturday with a 72-82 record and five games behind both the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers for first place in the American League West with eight games left to play.
