After eight-time All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald came out of retirement to sign with the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, Seattle Seahawks standout safety Nick Emmanwori chimed in on social media.

4 takeaways from Seahawks’ initial 53-man roster

“All that for us,” Emmanwori wrote in a post that he accompanied with a laughing emoji.

Donald’s return is the latest blockbuster addition for the Rams, who have spent the offseason aggressively adding talent after falling to the eventual Super Bowl champion Seahawks 31-27 in the NFC Championship Game this past January.

In March, the Rams addressed their issues in the secondary by trading for All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie and signing free agent cornerback Jaylen Watson. In June, the Rams traded for two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett.

And now, the 35-year-old Donald is ending his 2 1/2-year retirement in an effort to chase another Super Bowl ring. The three-time Defensive Player of the Year is one of the most dominant defensive players in NFL history, having piled up 111 sacks from 2014-23.

The Seahawks and Rams were widely considered to be the two best teams in the NFL last season, and they squared off in three nail-biting matchups that were decided by a combined nine points.

The Rams beat Seattle 21-19 in Week 11, while the Seahawks rallied from a 16-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat Los Angeles 38-37 in overtime in Week 16. Seattle then prevailed in the NFC title game on its way to capturing the Lombardi Trophy.

The bitter NFC West rivals enter 2026 as Super Bowl favorites, with the Rams at No. 1 and the Seahawks No. 2 in ESPN’s preseason power rankings. They square off in two late-season showdowns, with Seattle hosting a Christmas night clash in Week 16 and L.A. hosting a rematch in Week 18.
