Jarred Kelenic’s latest stint in MLB came to an end Sunday.
The Texas Rangers designated the former Seattle Mariners outfielder for assignment, marking the second time this year Seattle’s division rival has DFA’d the former top prospect. Catcher Logan O’Hoppe, a trade deadline acquisition for the Rangers, was recalled from Triple-A.

The 26-old-Kelenic has slashed .219/.313/.288 with a .601 OPS, one homer, two doubles, 10 walks and 31 strikeouts in 36 games with the Rangers and Chicago White Sox this season. Since his most recent callup to the big leagues on Aug. 11, the former No. 6 overall draft pick was batting .250 (3 for 12) with two walks and six strikeouts over 10 games.
Kelenic was also DFA’d by the White Sox in late May before electing free agency and signing a minor league deal with Texas on June 2.
Kelenic, who was the headliner in the package the Mariners received in the 2019 trade that sent second baseman Robinson Canó and closer Edwin Díaz to the New York Mets, played in 252 games over three seasons with the M’s from 2021-23. He hit .204 with a .656 OPS and 32 homers during his time in the Pacific Northwest.

It’s not looking good, but I hope Kelenick figures it out. It’s hard to see such talent hit a wall. Baseball is crazy.
As long as he doesn't kick a water cooler when frustrated, he should be ok....
I hope Colt figures it out, don't end up like Kelenic.
