Mariners claim pitcher away from AL West rival Texas Rangers

The Seattle Mariners have a new pitcher on their 40-man roster, and they picked him up from a team they’re fighting in the AL West.

The M’s announced Monday afternoon they have claimed right-hander Nolan Kingham off of waivers from the Texas Rangers.

Kingham, 29, will report to the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers. His addition brings Seattle’s 40-man roster to 37 players.

The Rangers (59-59) entered Monday holding the American League’s third wild card spot and sitting in second place in the AL West, 3 1/2 games ahead of the struggling Mariners (56-63).

The 6-foot-4 Kingham made his MLB debut on Aug. 3, allowing a run on one hit and two walks while recording a strikeout in a single inning of work in a loss to the San Francisco Giants.

The Rangers designated Kingham for assignment on Friday.

In 2026, Kingham has appeared in 11 games for the Triple-A Round Rock Express, including 10 starts. He has a 6.99 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in Triple-A, and also started six games for Monterrey in the Mexican League this year.

A University of Texas product, Kingham was drafted in the 12th round by the Atlanta Braves in 2018. His brother Nick Kingham pitched in 43 MLB games with Pittsburgh and Toronto from 2018-19.

Both the Mariners and Rainiers are off Monday. The Rainiers will begin a six-game homestand against the Reno Aces at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday at Tacoma’s Cheney Stadium, while the Mariners will start a 10-day, nine-game road trip at 4:05 p.m. Tuesday against the New York Yankees.
