M’s prospect Kade Anderson perfect in latest gem

Kade Anderson showed why he was recently named baseball’s top prospect by The Athletic with another dominant start in Double-A on Friday night.

This time the Seattle Mariners’ 2025 first-round pick was perfect throughout his outing.

Anderson didn’t allow anybody to reach base over five perfect innings as a part of a combined one-hitter in the Arkansas Travelers’ 8-0 win over the Tulsa Drillers at Dickey-Stephens Park. The left-hander needed just 56 pitches to get through five and struck out seven batters along the way.

With another brilliant outing, Anderson lowered his ERA to 1.27 and WHIP to 0.64. He’s posted a 9-1 record with a Texas League-high 115 strikeouts in 77 2/3 innings over 14 starts in his first year of professional baseball. He’s held his opponent scoreless in 10 of those outings and hitless twice.

Anderson’s start Friday was his first time back on the mound since tossing a scoreless inning when he was the starter for the American League in the All-Star Futures Game and his first start in Double-A since July 3.

The Athletic named the 22-year-old Anderson as baseball’s No. 1 prospect in their most recent rankings update Thursday. He’s ranked as the No. 5 prospect by MLB Pipeline and No. 8 by Baseball America.

Farmelo’s firsts

Outfielder Jonny Farmelo checked a few firsts off his list Friday night in his fourth game since being promoted to Double-A, collecting his first home run, double, RBIs and multi-hit game.

The 21-year-old left-handed hitter got the homer and RBIs out of the way first, launching a two-run blast to right field in a lefty-on-lefty matchup against Dodgers pitching prospect Adam Serwinowski in the third inning to provide the Travelers’ first runs.

Farmelo tacked on a two-run double to right field in the seventh off left-hander Evan Shaw.

MLB Pipeline ranks Farmelo as the No. 60 prospect in baseball and No. 6 in the Mariners’ farm system.
