Josh Naylor is out of the Seattle Mariners’ lineup for Game 2 of their series against the New York Mets on Tuesday night, a day after he was pulled due to back spasms.

With Naylor sitting, veteran Patrick Wisdom will serve as Seattle’s first baseman in the 6:40 p.m. game at T-Mobile Park.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said Naylor could be available off the bench. Following Monday’s game, Wilson said Naylor was day-to-day.
“(He’s) feeling better today for sure,” Wilson said Tuesday. “There’s a long way to go in this thing, and letting him catch his breath here today is a good idea.”
Wisdom took over at first for Naylor in the eighth inning of Monday’s 3-2 Mariners win. Naylor hit a solo homer to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, but experienced back spasms after the swing.
On the season, the 28-year-old Naylor has a .254/.317/.357 slash line for a .674 OPS with six home runs in 57 games.
Acquired last July in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Naylor batted .299 with nine homers, 33 RBIs and 19 stolen bases in 54 games for Seattle in 2025. He signed a $92.5 million, five-year contract in November.
Wisdom, 34, is 2 for 15 (.133) in 15 plate appearances for Seattle this year. A three-time 20-homer hitter for the Chicago Cubs from 2021-23, he spent the 2025 season playing in Korea. He has 12 homers in just 23 games with Triple-A Tacoma in 2026, which is tied for fourth in the Pacific Coast League even though he’s played in less than half of the games that the league leader has.
With Naylor out of action, left fielder Randy Arozarena is hitting third, right fielder Luke Raley is in the cleanup spot, and second baseman Cole Young will hit fifth a day after delivering the walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning to beat the Mets in the series opener.
