What Mariners GM said about Colt Emerson’s callup
Crawford took a 91.6 mph fastball from Padres starter Lucas Giolito off his right triceps in the third inning. Crawford remained in the game for another inning, but was pulled ahead of the fifth. He was replaced by utilityman Leo Rivas.
Mariners top prospect Colt Emerson, who was called up on Sunday to make his MLB debut, remained at third base.
Crawford, 31, is the Mariners’ longest-tenured player. He’s slashing .217/.361/.377 with six home runs, four doubles and a .738 OPS in 39 games this season.
The Mariners have already been hit hard by injuries this year, with star catcher Cal Raleigh (right oblique strain), third baseman Brendan Donovan (left groin strain), outfielder Victor Robles (right pectoral strain), right-handed reliever Matt Brash (right lat inflammation) and left-handed reliever Gabe Speier (left shoulder inflammation) each currently on the injured list.
