Another M’s pitching prospect having stellar start to 1st pro season

There’s been quite a bit of attention paid to Seattle Mariners pitching prospect Kade Anderson, and for good reason.

The left-hander and No. 3 overall pick in last year’s draft has a 1.85 ERA and 51 strikeouts over 34 innings in his first seven pro starts with Double-A Arkansas.

But Anderson isn’t the only left-handed pitcher from the 2025 draft class who is impressing early in his first pro season. Fourth-round pick Mason Peters is putting together quite the start of his own with Single-A Inland Empire.

Peters, a 22-year-old out of Dallas Baptist University, turned in his latest strong outing on Friday, tossing four scoreless innings with four strikeouts and just two hits and one walk allowed in the 66ers’ 9-4 win over the Stockton Ports.

After Friday’s start, Peters lowered his ERA to 1.93 over seven starts this year. He’s held batters to a .177 average and has 41 strikeouts to seven walks over 28 innings of work.

Peters entered Saturday just one strikeout behind the California League’s co-leaders and with the best ERA among pitchers pitchers with at least 25 innings pitched or five starts.

The 5-foot-11 lefty has been particularly excellent since allowing three runs over four innings in his debut. In the six starts since, he’s posted a 1.13 ERA with three runs allowed and 36 strikeouts over 24 innings. That includes going four hitless innings with a season-best nine strikeouts in his second start of the year.

Peters, who is ranked as the No. 15 prospect in the Mariners’ farm system by MLB Pipeline and No. 19 by Baseball America, features a three-pitch repertoire with a fastball, curveball and slider. It’s highlighted by a plus curveball, which you can see in several of the strikeouts in the video below.
