GM explains why Seahawks re-signed WR Jake Bobo

The Seattle Seahawks already had a clear-cut top four wide receivers for 2026 in Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp, Rashid Shaheed and Tory Horton.

But that didn’t stop them from forking the necessary money to keep Jake Bobo in the fold.

After the Jacksonville Jaguars signed Bobo to an offer sheet last Friday, the Seahawks matched it to keep the 27-year-old restricted free agent in Seattle. The Seahawks officially re-signed Bobo on Tuesday to a reported two-year, $5.5 million deal that could be worth up to $7 million.

On Wednesday, Seahawks general manager John Schneider was asked by Seattle Sports’ Wyman and Bob about the decision to bring back Bobo.

“Jake’s a culture guy,” Schneider said. “He had limited targets this year, but his effect on our team, you can’t really put a dollar amount on it – the way he affected our running game, special teams, the way he works, the way he conducts business every single day.”

As an undrafted rookie out of UCLA, the 6-foot-4 Bobo was an underdog story who made the Seahawks’ roster out of training camp in 2023 and caught a touchdown pass in his third NFL game. He served as the team’s fourth wide receiver in both 2023 and 2024, totaling 303 receiving yards and three touchdown catches over that span, while also contributing as a special teams mainstay.

In 2025, Bobo saw his playing time decrease. He had just two catches for 20 yards during the regular season, while logging just 117 offensive snaps in 11 games. He missed three games due to injuries and was a healthy scratch for another three games.

However, Bobo came up big during the Seahawks’ Super Bowl run, hauling in a 17-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter of Seattle’s 31-27 NFC Championship Game win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Schneider also cited Bobo’s contributions as a run blocker. In particular, he pointed to a key block from Bobo that helped spring free Kenneth Walker III for a pivotal 19-yard run on third-and-17 in the Seahawks’ Week 18 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

“We just decided that he’s one of us,” Schneider said. “And for what we want to continue to do here – smart, tough, reliable – he’s all that and more. … I can’t say enough good things about Jake.”
