It’s a tradition unlike any other in sports – the annual “Fry Bath” that is dumped over the coach of the winning team in the Potato Bowl.
This year, it became incumbent upon WSU Cougars to uphold the tradition as they defeated Utah State 34-21 in the 2025 Potato Bowl at Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho.

The Cougs were plenty accurate, showing both patience and perfect form while dumping a bucket of fries over the head of interim head coach Jesse Bobbit as the final seconds of the game on the iconic blue field ticked down.
Bobbit joined the list of Cougs to partake in eating a fry or two, as well, before tossing a handful in the air.

Not only was the Cougars’ first Potato Bowl win, it was their first win in a bowl of any kind since they beat Iowa State in the 2018 Alamo Bowl.
The game also marked both the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new one in WSU history. It was their last football game as part of the two-member Pac-12. It came against one of the schools joining the reformed Pac-12 next season – Utah State. And it was played at the home of another school joining the Pac-12 in 2026 – Boise State.

Bobbit, who was the Cougars’ defensive coordinator, took over for the bowl game following the departure of head coach Jimmy Rogers to Iowa State. Bobbit will be joining Rogers’ Iowa State coaching staff. Boise State product and Prosser native Kirby Moore has been hired as the new WSU coach and was in attendance at the Potato Bowl.
