Baseball might be locked out, but we are not. The Mariners Hot Stove returns to the airwaves Tuesday night and will be heard from 7-8 p.m. on 710 ESPN Seattle.

Drayer: How does the Mariners’ rotation compare to rest of AL West?

Due to the restrictions put on club broadcasters during the MLB lockout, the show will have a different look with myself and 710 ESPN Seattle’s James “Boy Howdy” Osborn hosting the show. The broadcast will feature interviews and Hot Stove conversations geared toward the eventual resumption of offseason transactions and the upcoming season.

This week’s show includes a visit with Brandon Williamson, the Mariners’ No. 5 ranked prospect, who will give us a look at what is happening at the Dominate the Zone Pitching Camp currently underway at the team’s complex in Peoria, Ariz. He also will talk about the relationships between the Mariners’ young pitching prospects, giving us one more reason to be excited about this group.

In addition to interviews and Hot Stove talk, the show will feature a weekly tutorial of sorts on the metrics that shape what you see on the field. Why do broadcasters talk about hard hit rates? Why is “Control the Zone” so important to the Mariners, and what numbers tell you a player is on the right track? Gary Hill will break down a number or two each week that ultimately will give you a better understanding of just how the Mariners operate. This week’s topic, O-Swing%.

Last but not least, each week will feature a conversation with a 710 ESPN Seattle personality with the aim of getting to know their baseball – what they grew up with, their appreciation for the game, and what they are looking forward to in 2022.

The Hot Stove – and The Cactus League Report, as the show is known once spring training starts – can be heard on 710 ESPN Seattle from 7-8 p.m. every Tuesday until the Mariners season begins. You can also find it in podcast form after the show airs at this link or by subscribing to 710 ESPN Seattle’s The Hot Stove on Apple or wherever you download your podcasts.
