The 2021 season was, overall, disappointing for the Seattle Seahawks, who finished the year 7-10 and in last place in the NFC West. But it was business as usual for linebacker Bobby Wagner, who took home All-Pro honors for the eighth time in his illustrious career.

Brock & Salk: The change that makes most sense for Seahawks

Wagner, 31, just wrapped up his 10th NFL season and as has been the case every year since his third year in the league, he was named to an Associated Press All-Pro team, taking home second-team honors for his play in the 2021 season.

Wagner appeared in 16 of 17 games for the Seahawks and tallied 170 tackles, one sack, one interception, three tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, five pass breakups and one forced fumble. The 170 tackles was a new career high for Wagner, who has the most tackles in team history.

Wagner missed the last game of the season due to a knee injury suffered in Week 17, and that came on the first play of the game so he effectively missed Seattle’s final two games of the season. Even with missing that much time, Wagner finished third in the league in tackles and second on the Seahawks behind fellow linebacker Jordyn Brooks, who tallied 184 – a new team record – in his second NFL season.

As noted, Wagner has been a regular on the AP’s All-Pro list since 2014. He earned first-team honors for the very first time in 2014 and every season from 2015 to 2020. 2021 is his second time earning second-team honors, the first being back in 2015.

The Seahawks drafted Wagner in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft and he has been a model of consistency for the franchise ever since. He’s missed just 10 games during his 10-year career due to injury and has had 100 or more tackles every year, averaging 138 per season.

Wagner also serves as the defensive captain for the Seahawks, a role he’s held six of the last seven seasons in Seattle.

Wagner has one year remaining on his current contract, and both he and head coach Pete Carroll expressed optimism late in the season that he will return to Seattle in 2022.
