The good news? We are not locked out of Talking Mariners. The bad news? Well, no baseball of course. Regardless, plenty to talk about.
Mariners Notebook: Trevor Story update, MiLB Rule 5 Draft
In the latest edition of the Talking Mariners Podcast with myself and James “Boy Howdy” Osborn, we lead off with lockout talk, getting into the hows, the whys and the outlook for resolution. What caused my optimism to change since the lockout was instituted, and at what point should we be concerned that a significant number of games could be lost?
Of course the impending lockout had impact on player movement with a spending frenzy right up until the day before everything shut down. The Mariners had offers on the table, so what happens when baseball gets back to work? Did they miss out on not getting another deal done?
How far will the Mariners go in filling their needs in the infield? There has been a lot of talk about Kris Bryant, Trevor Story and Matt Chapman. Who is the best fit? Is it a case of either or, or is it possible the Mariners could attempt to get two of the three? What about an outfielder? What about an extension for an outfielder?
Ah yes, the Mitch Haniger question. He’s one year from free agency, but is the door open to extend his contract? Howdy hits the nail on the head on this one. Something has changed.
We end the no-baseball baseball podcast with a conversation about, appropriately enough, the baseballs. And with that, for one week at least, you have been spared the talent portion of the podcast.
