Seahawks Day 6 notes: A good day for Russell Wilson

A few highlights from the Seahawks’ training camp practice on Friday:
Rookie quarterback Russell Wilson had one of his best days of training camp. His pinpoint long pass down the sideline to receiver Golden Tate was the highlight play of the morning session at VMAC. Tate did not have much separation from safety Kam Chancellor, but hauled in the bomb over his shoulder and took it to the house.
Wilson showed a lot of poise even with blitzes coming at him during another 11-on-11 drive.
Quarterback Matt Flynn also looked solid during his reps, connecting on several passes with tight end Sean McGrath. He’s an undrafted rookie free agent out of Division II Henderson State in Arkansas. McGrath is getting more looks because Anthony McCoy is still out with a hamstring injury.
Tarvaris Jackson did not get as many snaps as the other two quarterbacks, and had one series where he overthrew a couple receivers. His best passes continue to be seam or crossing routes to the tight ends like Cameron Morrah and Zach Miller.
Rookie safety Winston Guy from Kentucky continues to look like a playmaker. He stuck his nose in several running plays, and has the speed to cover the deep ball.
With just two kickers on the roster, punter Jon Ryan attempted some of the field goals. The plan is to given Steven Hauschka some rest and have Ryan ready as an emergency kicker.
Near the end of practice, tight end Kellen Winslow slipped trying to catch a pass and appeared to twist his right ankle. He walked off on his own power, but watched the last 20 minutes of the drills.
Fans get their money’s worth listening to the one-man show that is linebackers coach Ken Norton, Jr. The former NFL great is constant high-pitched chatter. On one series his linebackers stuffed a running play and Norton yelled over at the offense, “That’s how you make a statement!”
A few notable players were not in pads today, nursing minor injuries. Receivers Doug Baldwin and Antonio Bryant did not participate in contract drills. Neither did linebackers Bobby Wagner and Matt McCoy.
And finally, the crowd included some Washington players who will start their own camp next Monday. Most notable was cornerback Desmond Trufant, the youngest brother of Seahawks corner Marcus Trufant.
