Another year, another accolade for Seahawks middle linebacker Bobby Wagner, who, in his ninth NFL season, has been named an Associated Press First-Team All-Pro for the sixth time. Wide receiver DK Metcalf and safety Jamal Adams also were named All-Pros, making the Second-Team.

3 Seahawks Questions: Can Seattle’s offense overpower NFL’s top D?

Wagner has been a model of consistency for the Seahawks since entering the league in 2012 as a second-round draft pick from Utah State. Wagner has yet to have a season with under 100 tackles, with his lowest total being 104 in 2014, when he missed five games due to injury. In 2020, Wagner was again a tackling machine, piling up 138 tackles (seventh in the NFL) as well as three sacks, seven tackles for loss, 11 quarterback hits, eight pass deflections and a fumble recovery.

According to Tim Booth, an Associated Press writer based out of Seattle, Wagner is the 11th linebacker to be voted to the Associated Press’ First-Team at least six times, with the other 10 all being Hall of Fame inductees once their careers concluded. Wagner was also named to the AP’s Second-Team in 2015, giving him a total of seven All-Pro honors in total.

Wagner, who has been Seattle’s defensive captain since safety Kam Chancellor retired after the 2017 season, helped lead the defense’s turnaround from arguable the league’s worst through Week 9 to one of the league’s best entering the playoffs.

And as mentioned earlier, Wagner wasn’t the only member of the Seahawks to earn All-Pro honors, with Metcalf, Seattle’s second-year receiver, and Adams, in his first season as a safety for the Seahawks, both being named Second-Team All-Pros.

Metcalf ended 2020 with 83 catches, 1,303 yards (a Seahawks record and seventh in the NFL in 2020) as well as 10 touchdowns. Metcalf built off a strong rookie campaign in which he caught 58 passes for 900 yards and seven touchdowns in 2019.

Adams, who was a Second-Team All-Pro in 2018 and a First-Team All-Pro last year, did a little bit of everything for the Seahawks on defense this season, most notably leading Seattle in sacks despite missing four games and being listed as a safety. With 9.5 sacks, Adams set an NFL record for sacks in a single season by a defensive back. The previous record was eight.

Adams also had 83 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 14 quarterback hits, a forced fumble and three pass deflections.

The Seahawks gave up a lot to acquire Adams from the New York Jets, sending two first-round picks, a third-round pick and safety Bradley McDougald to New York for Adams and a fourth-round pick. That seems to have worked out so far, as Adams led the Seahawks in sacks in his first season, made a number of game-changing tackles against the run and appears to be getting better and better in coverage in Seattle’s defense.

Were any Seahawks snubbed?

For as good as the Seahawks were on special teams this year, no member of that unit were named First-Team or Second-Team All-Pros. (Note: the Associated Press only names players to the First-Team and Second-Team, there is no Third-Team or lower.)

Punter Michael Dickson and long snapper Tyler Ott, who made his first Pro Bowl, finished third in voting in their respective positions.

Kicker Jason Myers, who has yet to miss a field goal in 2020, finished fourth in voting among kickers while special teams standout and Pro Bowler Nick Bellore was tied for third in voting for special teamers.

Quarterback Russell Wilson, who finished 2020 with 4,212 yards and a career-high 40 passing touchdowns and made the Pro Bowl, did not receive any All-Pro votes. He was named a Second-Team All-Pro last season.

Free safety Quandre Diggs, who also made the 2020 Pro Bowl and had five interceptions, also did not receive any All-Pro votes.
