The Seahawks were significantly banged up after their Week 3 win over the Dallas Cowboys, and the team’s head coach had both good news and bad news to share on that front Friday on The Pete Carroll Show on KIRO Radio 97.3.

Seahawks’ path to top has never looked easier, which adds pressure

The good news: Running back Chris Carson, who suffered a knee sprain on a wholly unnecessary move by Dallas defensive tackle Trysten Hill after a tackle, will be good to go Sunday in Miami against the Dolphins.

The bad news: Seattle will be without two key new members of its defense – linebacker Jordyn Brooks, the team’s 2020 first-round draft pick, and Jamal Adams, the All-Pro safety the Seahawks paid a premium price to acquire via trade.

Brooks has a knee injury that hasn’t improved the way Seattle had hoped it would. That especially hurts the Seahawks considering Brooks was recently promoted to a starting role due to Bruce Irvin suffering a torn ACL.

“Jordyn’s really stiff. He’s not gonna make it this weekend,” Carroll told Dori Monson. “(His knee is swollen) not too bad but it just wound up being really stiff.”

Adams had to remove himself from the game against the Cowboys late with a groin strain.

“Jamal is not ready yet. He won’t make it. We’ll miss the heck out of him,” Carroll said.

Carson, who is Seattle’s leading rusher and tied for fourth in the NFL with three receiving touchdowns, hasn’t been too impacted by the injury that took out of the game against the Cowboys.

“Chris Carson had an excellent week, practiced today and yesterday… and was able to really show he was ready,” Carroll said. “He just bounced right back so we’re really happy about that.”

Offensive linemen Damien Lewis (ankle) and Ethan Pocic (knee) were also hurt last week, but Carroll said there’s no concern about their availability vs. Miami.

“The other guys that were nicked in the game were pretty much OK. Only gonna lose a couple of (the players injured in Week 3),” he said.

Another important defensive player to keep an eye on is starting cornerback Quinton Dunbar, who was inactive for Week 3 with a knee injury. Carroll said in his usual Wednesday press conference that the Seahawks would “wait all the way to the weekend to see where he is.”

(Update, 1:15 p.m. Friday: Dunbar has been ruled OUT for Week 4)

The Pete Carroll Show airs Fridays during the Seahawks season on KIRO Radio 97.3 FM – first in a shortened version on Seattle’s Morning News at 8:15 a.m., then in full at 12:30 p.m. on The Dori Monson Show. Listen to Friday’s show in the player below.
