The Mariners have officially added the second of two players to be named later they acquired around the MLB trade deadline late last month.

Right-handed pitching prospect Matt Brash has been acquired from the Padres to complete a deal that sent right-handed reliever Taylor Williams to San Diego just before the deadline on Aug. 31.

Seattle previously received outfield prospect Alberto Rodríguez as the player to be named later to complete a trade sending Taijuan Walker to Toronto.

Brash, 22, was a fourth-round MLB Draft selection by the Padres in 2019. He pitched a total of 5 1/3 innings between Single-A Fort Wayne and the Arizona League last year, allowing just one run on four hits and no walks with eight strikeouts combined at the two levels. He hails from Kingston, Ontario, Canada and played college ball at Niagara University.

In 14 starts and 85 1/3 innings as a junior with Niagara in 2019, he went 4-5 with a 2.43 ERA, 121 strikeouts and a 1.055 WHIP.

Since going to San Diego, the 29-year-old Williams has appeared in just one game, giving up a run on two hits while registering a strikeout in the one-inning appearance. The Camas, Wash., native has been shuffled back and forth between the Padres’ active roster and its alternate training site since the trade. Seattle acquired Williams on a waiver claim in the offseason, and his six saves is still the leading total for the Mariners this season.

The Mariners and Padres begin a three-game series in San Diego – with Seattle the designated home team – on Friday.
