The Seattle Mariners will get something akin to an All-Star break this week.

Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto’s take on 4 trade acquisitions from Padres

The Mariners’ entire three-game series with the Oakland Athletics that was scheduled to take place from Tuesday through Thursday has been postponed, the team announced Tuesday morning. That will give Seattle three straight days off for the only time (barring any other postponements) during the abbreviated 60-game 2020 MLB season.

A member of Oakland’s franchise tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend, resulting in the final game of the A’s-Astros series to be postponed on Sunday. On Monday, the Mariners and A’s announced the first two games of their upcoming series would be postponed. On Tuesday morning, the remaining game on Thursday was also postponed “out of an abundance of caution,” according to a statement released by the Mariners.

That means the Mariners’ next game will be Friday when the Texas Rangers come to Seattle’s T-Mobile Park to begin a four-game weekend series. All of those games will air on 710 ESPN Seattle beginning with Game 1 at 6:10 p.m. Friday (pregame show at 5 p.m.).

Per the statement, the A’s “conducted testing and contact tracing for the entire traveling party in line with MLB protocols and will continue to follow the recommended safety precautions” in the hopes of returning to the field as soon as possible. Oakland currently leads the American League West and has the second-best record in the entire AL at 22-12. The Mariners are third in the West division at 15-22.

The Mariners and Athletics plan to make up their three postponed games with a pair of doubleheaders. The first will be on Monday, Sept. 14 in Seattle, and the final postponed game will be made up as part of another doubleheader in Oakland on Saturday, Sept. 26.
