Standout cornerback Richard Sherman says he suffered a high-ankle sprain in the fourth quarter of the Seahawks 43-8 Super Bowl victory over the Denver Broncos, but expects to be fine by the start of team activities in the spring.

Sherman was hit by teammate Earl Thomas as the pair attempted to break up a pass early in the fourth quarter. Sherman had been down earlier in the second half after appearing to get his legs tangled on a block, but he ran off the field after being looked at by trainers.

The second time, trainers again looked at his right leg and he limped off the field with his arm around teammate Walter Thurmond.

He was taken by cart to the locker room and returned to the field with crutches and an air-boot around his injured ankle for the team’s post-game celebration.

While many ankle sprains heal with rest, some can require surgery. But Sherman sounded a confident note in a post-game interview with ESPN.
