The Seahawks have re-signed cornerback Jamar Taylor just one week after releasing him, according to the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Taylor was one of several cuts made by the Seahawks in their effort to trim to down to a 53-man roster by the Aug. 31 deadline. The 28-year-old defensive back was originally signed by the Seahawks in May, just one day after the team added defensive end Ziggy Ansah.

Taylor appeared to have the edge in Seattle’s battle at the nickel spot, making his release last week a bit of a surprise. Carroll announced Taylor would get the start ahead of Seattle’s Aug. 24 preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

“He does bring some experience to us,” Carroll said on Aug. 21. “We have a lot of young guys back there. He brings play experience and he’s really fast, a 4.3 guy, really fast and it shows up. He’s done a nice job so far. He’s right in the middle of the competition.”

No additional roster move had been reported as of Monday afternoon, but Seattle will have to create a spot on its 53-man roster for Taylor. That could be by a roster move to the injured reserve list. Two defensive backs were injured in Sunday’s season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals: safety Ugo Amadi and cornerback Neiko Thorpe. Amadi had the wind knocked out of him during a collision with a teammate and his injury doesn’t appear to be serious enough to necessitate his placement on the injured reserve list. Thorpe exited the game with a hamstring injury and Carroll didn’t yet have an update on his status during an interview Monday morning.

Defensive tackle Poona Ford (calf) and tight end Will Dissly (knee) were also injured.

About Jamar Taylor

The 5-feet-11, 192-pound Taylor was drafted in the second round by the Miami Dolphins in 2013, though started just nine games over his first three seasons in the league. Taylor saw increased production in 2016, after he was traded to the Cleveland Browns.

The subsequent two seasons saw career-highs for Taylor. In 2016, he started 14 games and recorded three interceptions, 13 passes defended, and 57 tackles. In 2017, he started 15 games, and had 10 passes defended, a split-sack, and 62 tackles. The Browns ultimately traded Taylor to the Arizona Cardinals in 2018, where he spent half the season before being released in November. (More)
